The Four Way Test of the Things We Think, Say, or Do

1. Is it the TRUTH?
2. Is it FAIR to all concerned?
3. Will it build GOOD WILL and BETTER FRIENDSHIPS?
4. Will it be BENEFICIAL to all concerned?

A Little History of Monroe and Monroe Rotary

Monroe is located in the northeast portion of the State of Louisiana. We are located approximately 90 miles east of Shreveport, 90 miles north of Alexandria, and 70 miles west of Vicksburg, Mississippi. Located on the Ouachita (wash-i-taw) River we are the seat of government of Ouachita Parish.

Monroe is the hub of the business and medical communities of northeast Louisiana. We are home to the University of Louisiana at Monroe, and are proud to be the birthplace of Delta Airlines and of our strong ties to the first bottler of Coca-Cola.

The Rotary Club of Monroe was founded April 29, 1918, with a charter membership of thirty-one. The Alexandria Rotary Club was credited with encouraging the organization of our club. Monroe Rotary in turn, assisted in the establishment of clubs in West Monroe, Ruston, Bastrop and Northeast Monroe, Louisiana among others.

About our Programs

In furtherance of the goals of Rotary, our club has sponsored many worthy projects including, scholarships at the University of Louisiana at Monroe, Goodfellows, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, Monroe Youth Baseball, The Food Bank of Northeast Louisiana, Camp Quality, The Salvation Army, and Girl’s and Boy’s State, to name just a few.

In addition we also sponsor Interact Clubs at Neville High School and River Oaks High School and sponsor two students each year to attend District 6190’s, Camp RYLA (Rotary Youth Leadership Award), a program for young people, intended to develop qualities of leadership, good citizenship and personal development.

We were instrumental along with District 6190 and The University of Louisiana at Monroe in establishing Camp Enterprise, a weeklong summer experience for incoming high school seniors, giving them a look into what it takes to establish and run your own business. In seeking to honor those high school students who truly represent the Rotary belief of Service Above Self, we recognize an outstanding graduating senior from several of Monroe’s high schools with a “Service Above Self” award.

International Service

Each year the members of Rotary open their homes to members of the Rotary Foundation’s Group Study Exchange program. We have proudly participated in this program for many years hosting teams from India, France, Norway, England, Brazil, Australia, Scotland, Belgium, Japan, Austria and several other countries. Additionally many of our members have traveled abroad as a part of the Friendship Exchange, where Rotarians seek opportunities to visit other districts throughout the world.
